Half inch of rain for Hays overnight; more rain in the forecast

The rain continues to fall in this wet month for Hays.

Hays received another .52 inches of rain overnight for a total rainfall for July of 6.97 inches. The average rainfall for July in Hays is 3.33 inches.

Hays has received 16.62 inches of moisture year to date compared to an average of 14.68 inches by the end of July.

During the storm, winds reached 38 mph at 10 meters from the ground, according to the K-State Ag Research Center.

The forecast for Hays for today is showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3 p.m. — cloudy, with a high near 78. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch of rain possible.

 More thunderstorms are forecast for tonight mainly before 1 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts are forecast between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The rain is forecast to stop over the weekend with mild temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s through Sunday. Chances of rain return Sunday night and Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
