HAYS - Monday evening Hays High and McPherson played their rescheduled games from last week.

GIRLS: #4 Hays 60, McPherson 29
Hays High overcame a cold shooting night to beat McPherson 60-29.

The Indians scored the first six points of the game forcing McPherson to take a time out ninety seconds into the contest. The Bullpups cut the lead back to two points at 8-6 and then trimmed it down to one at 10-9. McPherson had a chance to take the lead but missed their shot.

The Indians scored the final five points of the first quarter for a 15-9 advantage. McPherson hit a three to get within three points at 17-12 with 6:30 remaining before halftime. The remainder of the quarter belonged to Hays. They went on a 16-2 run that included the last ten points of the quarter for a 33-14 halftime advantage.

Highlights

The Indians were cold shooting in the third quarter making just four of seventeen shots. McPherson though could not take advantage outscoring Hays by just one point at 11-10. The Indians led 43-25 going to the fouth quarter.

Hays was much better shooting in the fourth at seven of ten helping the Indians to a 60-29 victory.

Hays (17-0) shot just 34% in the game, yet managed 60 points, five under their season average.. Zoe Winter grabbed ten rebounds in the game for the Indians. McPherson (6-10) is the eighth Indian opponent to scored 29 or less points.

Hays outscored McPherson by ten in the fourth quarter, pushing the Indians to a 57-52 victory.

The game was tight early. Hays led at 7-6 and again at 11-8. McPherson scored five in a row to claim the lead at 13-11. The Indians knocked down two of four free throws to tie the game at 13 going to the second quarter.

Hays jumped on top 17-13 with back-to-back field goals to open the second frame. The Bullpups fired right back with a 9-0 run to grab the advantage at 22-17. The lead for McPherson would stick at five points heading to halftime at 29-24.

Highlights

McPherson began to build on their lead in third quarter. The Bullpups grabbed a 41-33 lead with 1:15 remaining before fourth quarter. The Indians would chip off three points in the final thirty seconds of the third quarter, trailing 41-36.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Indians. Hays made six of eight field goals while McPherson was two of eight from the field. The Indians tied the game at with 6:10 remaining at 41 points apiece. A field goal with 5:05 put Hays ahead for good.

McPherson sunk a three with 1:15 left on the clock to get within two at 50-48. Inside a minute remaining McPherson started sending Hays to the free throw line. The Indians took advantage making seven of eight free throws over the final 48-seconds.

The Bullpups banked in a three with five seconds left for the final difference of 57-52.

Hays (10-7) held McPherson (12-3) to their second lowest point total of the season and sixteen under their season average.

Hays concludes a five game homestand on Friday when they host Garden City.
