KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State's Shayla Nordlund has been named MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Nordlund won the MIAA Fall Conference Preview earlier this week at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney, Neb., finishing first in the 90-player field with a two-round total of 1-over 143. Playing in just her second collegiate tournament, the Sartell, Minn. native carded six birdies across the 36-hole event, posting an opening-round score of 2-over 73 before posting a 1-under 70 on day two. She trailed by four shots following the first round before beating a pair of conference opponents by one shot.
She is the sixth FHSU women's golfer to claim a tournament victory and is just the third to do so as a true freshman (Hannah Perkins - 2016 Sterling Spring Fling, Kiley Johansen - 2008 Quality Inn Maverick Invitational).
Nordlund and the rest of the FHSU women's golf team will return to action in two weeks at the Grace Shin Regional Preview October 7-8 at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.
