Darryl Dean Bauman

Darryl Dean Bauman, 82, of Greensboro, NC passed away December 30, 2021, at his Greensboro home.  A memorial mass was held Saturday, January 8, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC.  

Darryl was born January 7, 1939, in Goodland, KS to Leonard and Margaret (Cotter) Bauman.  Darryl received his early education in Goodland.  As a child, he was happy to serve as an altar boy at Sunday mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.  He attended Goodland High School where he played football for the Goodland Cowboys.  Darryl attended college at Kansas State University and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.  He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.  After college he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  Upon completion of his military service he was employed by the United States Department of Labor working in Dodge City, KS, Kansas City, MO and Washington, D.C.  He retired in 2004.  

Mr. Bauman was an active member at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC  and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Being a member of the Fourth Degree is the highest and most prestigious degree within the organization and is awarded to Sir Knights who are dedicated to the service of their church, country and order.  

He enjoyed watching football, participating in activities with his children, refereeing youth soccer games and doing crossword puzzles.  He liked spending time with his beloved grand-dogs, Teddy and Shadow.  

Darryl was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Margaret, and twin brother Jarrell Bauman.  

He is survived by his wife, Gloria D. Bauman of the home; sister, Becky and husband Les  Sheldon of Greeley, CO; children, Christie D. Pearson of Durham, NC, Douglas D. Bauman of Topeka, KS, and Jessica B. and husband Gary Hilliard of Greensboro, NC; and a host of family members and friends.  

An interment service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Location: Goodland Cemetery, North Main Street in Goodland.
