TOPEKA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team fell in straight sets Saturday (Nov. 9) at Washburn, 13-25, 15-25, 17-25. The Tigers move to 12-11 on the year and 4-10 in league action, while the Ichabods improve to 19-5 overall and 10-4 in league play.
The home team took control early, scoring eight of the first 10 points before maintaining that lead in a 25-13 first-set victory. Fort Hays State trailed by six early in the second set but closed within four following a kill from Taytum Lovesee. Washburn eventually pulled away, winning the set 25-15. FHSU took its first lead of the day in the third set, leading as late as 4-3 before the Ichabods scored five in a row to go in front 8-4. The Ichabods led by as many as nine, but the Tigers were able to close within four at 19-15 before WU bounced back to win the frame, 25-17.
Gracie Rains accumulated 11 kills, with Abrey Galt dishing out a team-best 14 assists alongside nine digs. Kirsten Evans led the Tigers with 13 digs, while Grace Schmedding added 11 digs and four kills.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will wrap up the regular season next weekend (Nov. 15-16) with road matches at Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State. FHSU will take on the Griffons in St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday before battling the Bearcats in Maryville, Mo. on Saturday, with both matches beginning at 6 p.m.
