Vera I. (Romme) Schmidtberger, age 89 of Great Bend, Kansas died Friday, January 14, 2022, at the River Bend Assisted Living Center, Great Bend.
She was born August 14, 1932, in Victoria, Kansas to Raymond M. and Madgelena (Kuhn) Romme. She married Paul F. Schmidtberger on December 27, 1951, at Victoria, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2019.
She was a homemaker that loved making her holiday feast or any meal for the family, she also enjoyed dancing the night away at polka dances with Paul. Vera was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and has lived in Great Bend since 1951. She grew up in Victoria, and was a graduate of Victoria High School. Vera and her husband Paul raised her two brothers, Leon and Thomas Romme after their parents died.
Survivors include her son, Mark Schmidtberger and wife, Dianna, Cheney, KS; her brother, Leon Romme and wife, Jolene, Lawrence, KS; her sister, Delores Schmeidler, Catharine, KS; her four grandchildren, Aaron Schmidtberger (Elizabeth); Jamie Peters (Trent); Jessica Tomlinson; Kyle Schmidtberger (Christina Bulcao); and her 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Steve Schmidtberger; her grandson, Andy Schmidtberger; her three brothers, Robert Romme, Donald Romme; Thomas Romme; and her two infant twin brothers, John and Joseph Romme.
A private family mass will be held at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas and a private family burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
