GOODLAND - After being swept in a home doubleheader the day before, the TMP-Marian softball team bounced back with a split with Goodland in their first road games of the season. The Monarchs pulled away late for a 21-8 win in game one but lost the second contest 6-4.
TMP-Marian is now 3-3 on the season.
Game 1: TMP-Marian 21, Goodland 8
The Monarchs scored 10 runs over the final three innings to pull away in the back and forth affair.
The Monarchs struck first, scoring four in the first inning and led 11-5 after three.
After the Cowgirls scored three in the fourth to pull within three, the Monarchs struck for five in the fifth, a run in the sixth then four in the seventh.
Brooke Koeningsman led the Monarchs 16-hit attack going 4-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored. Hannah Garcia finished with three hits, two of them doubles and two RBIs. Karli Komerek had two hits and drove in three. Halle Dreiling, Jaci VonLintel and Addison Watson all drove in two runs.
Maddie Augustine went the distance in the circle and picked up the win allowing only one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
Game 2: Goodland 6, TMP-Marian 4
Goodland scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie then worked around an error and walk stranding the tying run on base to end the game.
Both team scored a run in the first. The Monarchs took the lead with two in the second on a Brooke Koeningsman double and passed ball. They added another run in the third on Teagan Gottschalk's single, but the Cowgirls tied the game with three in the bottom of the inning.
Goodland scored the go-ahead run following a two-out walk then a fielding error. The next batter singled driving in the second run of the inning.
TMP would get two on in the seventh after a leadoff error and two-out walk to Koeningsman, but a groundout ended the game.
Maddie Augustine took the loss allowing one earned run on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Addison Watson had two of the Monarchs six hits, one of them a double.
