Dr. Kathleen Cheryl (Price) Spillman

Dr. Kathleen Cheryl (Price) Spillman of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away at the Freeman Cardiac Institute, Joplin, Missouri, on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Kathleen was born March 7, 1947, to Lester Kenneth and Aline Clarabel (Irion) Price at Larned, Kansas.  She grew up on the Price family farm 8 miles northwest of Garfield, Pleasant Ridge Township, Pawnee County, Kansas.  She attended the Garfield Schools graduating in 1965.

Dr. Spillman earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas.  Kathy worked in the Miami, Oklahoma Public Schools for years as a second and fifth grade teacher.  She worked for thirty years as a public-school teacher before she earned her Doctorate from Oklahoma State University and worked for Pittsburg State University training and educating teachers.  She enjoyed quilting, reading and gardening.  Kathy was preceded in passing by her parents, Lester and Clarabel and brother-in-law, James O. Roberts.

She is survived by her two children, Matthew Douglas (Cheryl Stapleton) Spillman, and Mandy Lynn Hixon all of Miami, Oklahoma.  She was Nana to Kyleigh and Addison Hixon, Kinson Spillman, Dameon Townsend, Kayla and Bobby Hilton.  She is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth E. (Carol) Price, Garfield, Kansas, and Lester L. (Janet) Price, Allen, Texas; two sisters, Kay E. Roberts, Aurora, Colorado, and Carole A. (Mike) Tudor, Fairland, Oklahoma.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cremation has taken place in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.  A memorial graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 20, 2021, at Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, Kansas.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in care of the family, Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550.
