Norma Jean Bollig

Norma Jean Bollig, 90, Hays, Kansas died Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at the Presbyterian Nursing Home of Clay Center, Kansas Previously she had been living with her family in Clay Center. 

She was born March 14, 1930, in Hays, to Jerome and Margaret (Brown) Riedel, of Walker, Kan.,  She married Elmer J. “Cap” Bollig of Hays December 23, 1950.  He preceded her in death on January 21, 2000.

She attended grade school in Walker and Victoria High School, graduating as the valedictorian in 1948. She attended Fort Hays State University as an honors student, with plans to major in history.  She and Elmer moved to Plainville, where Elmer set up a thriving shoe repair and retail business, and they raised their family together. 

Norma was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for more than 50 years, a leader in the Daughters of Isabella, and the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, and the Sacred Heart Grade School.  Norma was known widely for her green thumb, a wonderful homemaker, and voracious reader,  She will be remembered as a kind soul, generous with her time and talent in giving to others, and a strong devotion to her faith. 

Survivors include her sons, Jerry and wife, Theresa, Perry, KS; David and wife Debrah, Clay Center, KS; her daughter Sandra, Dodge City, KS; her sister, Judith Andrews, Phillipsburg, KS; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Due to the current COVID-19 virus situation, the family will schedule a memorial service at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas and Inurnment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to Humane Society of the High Plains or St. Ann’s Catholic Church in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
