HAYS - Hays High hosted a 5A West regional track meet in the first year of their new high school.
The girls team took second behind Bishop Carroll. The boys placed fourth, trailing Bishop Carroll, Salina Central and Goddard.
The top three finishes from each of the four regionals automatically qualify for the state meet. The next six best marks from all of the regionals will fill out the rest of the field. The regional in Hays was the only 5A meet on Thursday, so all of the finishers outside the top three will have to wait to find out if their season is over, or continues in Wichita next week.
