WaKeeney – The TMP-Marian boys and girls basketball teams stayed unbeaten in the Mid-Continent League Tuesday night with a pair of wins against the Trego Golden Eagles in WaKeeney.
Girls: 56, Trego 26
The TMP girls a 24-2 run to end the first half and open the
third quarter on their way to their 11th win in-a-row Tuesday 56-26
over Trego Tuesday in WaKeeney.
The Lady Monarchs (12-2, 5-0 MCL) opened the game on a 9-0 run that extended to a 13-3 run heading into the second quarter. TMP forced Trego (8-6, 4-2) into nine first quarter turnovers.
Trego was able to close within five to start the second quarter but TMP finished the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 23-10 at halftime.
They opened the second half on a 16-2 run to take a 39-13 lead.
The Monarchs led by 30 points in the fourth quarter and with the running clock they went on to the 56-26 win.
TMP’s Emilee Lane scored 10 of her game-high 18 points on the first half and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Sophia Balthazor added 13 points.
Boys: TMP 51, Trego 49
The TMP boys rallied from down eight with three and a half
minutes left in the fourth quarter and knock off Trego 51-49 in overtime.
Trego opened the game on a 7-3 first quarter run and led by four at the end of the fourth quarter before TMP’s Andrew Schwartz hit a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter cutting the Trego lead to 13-12.
With Trego leading 15-14 TMP’s Kade Harris and Kenton Ginther hit back-to-back three pointers for TMP 10-3, 5-0 MCL) sparking a 14-4 run putting TMP ahead 26-17. The Monarchs led 28-23 at halftime.
TMP was able to build a nine-point was five and a half minutes left in the third quarter at 32-23
Trego (11-2, 4-1 MCL) answered with a 22-3 run to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter to take a 45-37 lead with three and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter.
TMP closed fourth quarter on a 10-2 run with a Bryce Seib free throw tying the game at 47 with just 57 seconds left.
In the overtime period TMP’s Kade Harris scored the only field goal, a layup after a steal by Gavin Unrein with just over two and a half minutes left putting TMP up 49-47.
TMP was able to secure the 51-48 win.
Kade Harris scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. Dylan Werth also finished with a team-high 13 points. Werth added nine rebounds.
Trego’s Charlie Russell scored a game-high 26 points and added eight rebounds.
