
Johnny Ray “Big John” Meier, 64, Catharine, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his home.
He was born April 18, 1957, in Hoxie, the youngest of five children of John and Lydia (Werth) Meier. In 1975, he graduated from Hays High School. He was the owner and operator of Big John’s Saloon, a business that he always dreamed of owning. Big John invested his time and passion into his business taking pride in serving great food and was well known for his hamburgers. He could repair anything and was also a talented woodworker. Big John was a compassionate man, known for helping others, and enjoyed talking with people at his saloon.
Survivors include his mother; Lydia Meier of Hays, three sisters; Dorothy Ochs and husband Billy, Betty A. Wolf, and Carol Joy and husband Frank, all of Hays, a son, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; John Meier, one sister; Mary Lou Rodgers, and a brother-in-law; Allen Wolf.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Father Nick Parker officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until service time.
