KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State junior Talexa Weeter has been named the initial MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week of the 2025-26 season, announced Tuesday (Nov. 18) by the league office.
An honorable mention All-MIAA pick last season, Weeter opened the season with a bang, ranking second across all Division II with an average of 32.5 points per game. The Goodland, Kan. native added 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 60.5 percent from the floor, averaging a double-double for the week.
She began the year with a 36-point outing against 11-ranked Concordia-St. Paul, tied for sixth-most in a game in program history and the most for a Tiger in more than 20 years, before capping off the weekend with 29 points on 13-of-20 shooting against Sioux Falls. Weeter grabbed a career-best 14 boards against the Golden Bears before collecting seven in the win over USF.
This is the fourth time FHSU has had the first MIAA Athlete of the Week out of the last five years, with Olivia Hollenbeck taking home the award after week one of the 2024-25 season and Katie DeGarmo receiving the honor early in the 2021-22 and the 2023-24 campaigns.
Weeter and the rest of the Tigers will continue the non-conference schedule this weekend (Nov. 21-22) when they head to Wichita, Kan. for the Newman Classic. FHSU will first take on Eastern New Mexico on Friday before battling William Jewell on Saturday, with both games slated for 3 p.m. starts.
