Hays High soccer picked up its first postseason victory of 2026 Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout of Andover Central in Class 5A regional action at the HHS field.
The win advanced the Indians (12-3-2) into Thursday's regional championship match vs. Topeka West (15-2), which beat Arkansas City 2-0 Tuesday. Start time for Thursday's title match is 6 p.m. at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.
After a scoreless first half, senior Ivan Maldonado sandwiched a pair of goals around one by sophomore teammate Mason Shadley to help the Indians secure their sixth shutout victory of the season. HHS has seven total shutouts this season, including a scoreless double overtime draw with Liberal.
Maldonado's goals boosted his total this season to 26, tying the individual single-season record set in 2018 by Trae McRae.
It was the sixth straight win for HHS. The team's 12 victories this season are the most since the program's 12-4 mark in 2012, when Maldonado and the nine other HHS seniors were preschool age.
