HaysMed now provides cementless total knee replacements in appropriate patients. Fellowship-trained and board-certified joint replacement orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Oluwaseun Akinbo MD, has recently incorporated this newer mode of implanting knee replacement components to his practice.

The cementless knee replacement surgery is an option for anyone that is a candidate for total knee replacement and without significant osteoporosis/osteopenia. It is especially beneficial for younger patients as it allows biologic ingrowth, decreasing the risk of loosening.

Cementless total knee replacement can also be aided with the use of a real-time computer navigation system. This ensures improved precision with implant positioning and restoration of appropriate ligament balance to the knee, Akinbo said.

When your knee replacement components are well aligned and positioned, it decreases the risk of some complications like instability, loosening, and excessive wear.

“Computer-navigated knee replacement is one of the most technologically advanced methods of performing your knee replacement today. The longevity of your knee replacement is dependent upon a degree of precision that computer navigation affords,” Akinbo said.

With this, HaysMed continues to add to its suite of modern and less invasive total joint replacement options for patients to include patient-specific shoulder replacement, direct anterior hip replacement with computer navigation, and minimally/less invasive posterior hip replacement.

“Our offerings rival the best that can be offered to our patients in the country and certainly in the state of Kansas,” Akinbo said.
