Hays Fire Department responds to fire at Gella's in Hays

At 9:57 a.m. Wednesday,  the Hays Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a building fire at Gella's Diner, 117 E. 11th, Hays

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke coming from the kitchen exhaust system. Crews made entry and found the fire in the kitchen had been extinguished by the building’s automatic fire sprinkler system.

Crews extinguished hot spots and ventilated the building. All occupants made it safely out of the building with no injuries. One firefighter was treated and released on scene due to heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental. The fire was contained to the kitchen.

Gella's announced on its Facebook page it will be temporarily closed while it deals with fire cleanup.
