Cynthia L. “Cindy” Thayer, 59, Hays, died Friday, February 24, 2023, at KU Medical Center.
She was born August 30, 1963, in Wichita, the daughter of James and Betty (Byrns) Wilder. Cindy graduated from Hays High School and studied sociology and psychology in college. On January 30, 1982, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Thayer in Hays, and they celebrated 39 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 22, 2021.
Cindy was kind-hearted, generously helped others, and used her caring nature in her work as a disability advocate. She and her husband owned and operated Economy Cab. Cindy loved cats, was very involved in her children’s lives and activities, and adored her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Phillip Thayer and partner Nathan Davis, daughter, Heather Thayer and husband Kirk Werth, two grandchildren, Kassii and Chase Werth, all of Hays, and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
To celebrate and remember the lives of Cindy and Jim, their family will receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
