Josephine Horinek Mazanec, 101, of Hays, passed away at her home on May 4, 2021.  She was born March 18, 1920 in Atwood to Frank Horinek Jr. and Caroline (Janousek) Horinek.

She married Raymond James Mazanec on May 1, 1945.

She loved quilting, embroidering and crocheting. She loved to play bingo, gamble, and travel to the casinos with her sweetheart. Her most cherished time was family time. Josephine and Raymond were members of the Sunflower Polka Club.

Josephine was employed as an assembly line worker at Travenol in Hays.

She is survived by her three daughters: Caroline Hilmes of WaKeeney; Antonetta “Toni” Lang of Hays; and Ramona “Mona” (Bruce) Young of Lakewood, Colo.  Four grandchildren: Bill and Liz Hilmes, Kansas; Diana and Kirk Ficken, Kansas; Matthew and Amanda Young, Colorado; Stephanie and Brett Graham, Colorado; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers: Frank, Paul, and Charlie; her sister: Antonetta Prokop; a grandson: Joseph Lang; and two sons-in-law: Larry Hilmes and Frank Lang.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th St., Hays, KS 67601.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 10 with a combined parish vigil and Rosary service at 7 p.m. at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS 67601.  Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the State of Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at WaKeeney.
