Norman Keith Voss, 88, passed away May 14, 2026, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Norman was born June 24, 1937, in Graham County, Kansas to Louis and Irma (Henry) Voss. He was the middle of five children.
Norman graduated from Hill City High School in 1954 and from Manhattan Christian College in 1958 and attended graduate school at Lincoln Bible Institute. During his college years, he developed many lifelong friendships and deepened his love for the Lord, studying God’s Word while enjoying basketball, ping pong and fellowship with friends. He rode a 1951 Harley Davidson motorcycle back and forth from his farm home to Manhattan. Norman’s love of basketball and ping pong continued throughout his high school and college years. He looked forward to challenging his grandchildren to a game whenever he got a chance.
Norman met the love of his life and lifelong companion, Dorothy (Wagner), and they were united in marriage June 10, 1962. They shared 60 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 31, 2022. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. Norman and Dorothy lived in several homes on Bow Creek before settling on their farm near Densmore, Kansas in 1974.
Norman faithfully pastored several churches before and after his marriage to Dorothy. Whether farming the land or preaching the Gospel, his life reflected his unwavering trust in God and his desire to share Christ with others. In 1989, Norman and Dorothy retired from farming so they could devote more time to ministry. Over the years they pastored churches in Sydney, Iowa, Circleville, Kansas, and Colby, Kansas before retiring in Plainville, Kansas. In 2006, they returned to the family farm, where they lived until moving to Bogue, Kansas in 2021.
Norman was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. His family always knew they could depend on him for wisdom, support, prayer and unconditional love. He rarely missed his children’s sporting events and took great joy in cheering them on through every season of life.
Norman enjoyed many projects throughout his life and was active in his communities. He enjoyed serving as 4-H woodworking leader. His favorite woodworking project to teach was turning lamps on a lathe. He was involved on church and school boards and with the Gideons and Manhattan Christian College. In addition, he enjoyed sharing interactive Bible lessons through balloon art and magic tricks.
Norman loved farming and ranching and managed a sizable cattle herd throughout his farming career. He enjoyed cutting firewood and working outdoors. One winter, he enjoyed working alongside his Kansas grandsons to start a firewood business. Later in life, he enjoyed gardening, took up woodworking again, and spent many peaceful hours reading from his extensive Louis L’Amour book collection.
He loved bringing people together. Summer family gatherings often included hot dog roasts, homemade ice cream and sometimes roasting an entire pig – though Dorothy was often left helping with the cleanup afterward. Whenever the grandkids would visit, he was quick to set up for a hot dog roast. One summer was spent trying to create every ice cream flavor imaginable, including mulberry ice cream. That was a one-time attempt. And every year, Norman especially looked forward to enjoying a German chocolate cake on his birthday.
One of Norman’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandkids and great-grandchildren. His legacy of faith, love and devotion to family will continue through generations.
Norman is survived by his son Wayne and Kellie Voss of Hays, Kansas, daughter Martha and Tony Stutterheim of Scottsdale, Arizona and daughter Paula and Rob Amerine of Chandler, Arizona; nine grandchildren: Allen Voss, Luke Amerine, Rachel (Nick) Dooley, Aaron (Tessa) Voss, Jordan Voss, Matthew (Morgan) Amerine, Valerie Stutterheim, Joshua Amerine, Ethan Voss; great-grandchildren John Voss, Madelyn Dooley, Lainey Dooley and Eli Amerine; one brother, Roy Voss, three sisters, Ila Mays, Delores Ary and Dorothy Beecher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents Louis and Irma; brothers, John Voss, Leland Voss; and grandson Ian Stutterheim.
Norman will be remembered for his steadfast faith and the love he shared so freely with others. His family rejoices in knowing he is now at peace with his Savior, whom he faithfully served throughout his life.
