Drought persists in Ellis County, but more rain in the forecast

While much of western Kansas is no longer considered in drought, much of Ellis County is still classified as being in moderate drought, according to the Kansas Drought Monitor, released on Thursday.

As of Thursday, Hays had received 2.61 inches of rain in November. The average precipitation for the month is .84 inches.

Hays has received 22.76 inches of precipitation year to date compared to an average of 22.22 inches by the end of November.

The forecast for today and Saturday is for unseasonably warm weather with highs in the mid to upper 50s and breezy.

Chances for rain return on Sunday and Monday, with highs dropping into the 50s. 

The National Weather Service forecasts the low on Tuesday night to drop to 28 degrees with a 20% chance of snow Tuesday night.
