⚾ Monarchs open season with pair of run-rule wins

ELLINWOOD – The TMP-Marian baseball team opened their season with a pair of run-rule wins over Ellinwood Tuesday. TMP won by scores of 18-0 and 17-0. Game one was called after three and game two after four innings by run-rule. Caden Dinkel had five hits and drives in nine in the two games

The Monarchs are back on the road Tuesday at Colby.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 18, Ellinwood 0 (3 innings)
The Monarchs made quick work of the Eagles, scoring eight runs in the first inning and 10 in the second. Logan Baalmann had a three-run single, Nash Dreiling a two-run single and Caden Dinkel and Connor Breith RBI singles. TMP also scored a run on a wild pitch.

In the second, Dinkel had an RBI double and 3-run triple, Ty Schmeider had an RBI single and drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. Dreiling added a run-scoring double and Ian Nehls a run-scoring single.

Schmeidler (1-0) earned the win. The lefty gave up two hits over three innings with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Dinkel went 3-for-3 and drove in five runs. Baalmann, Dreiling, Nehls, and Schmeidler each collected multiple hits

Game 2: TMP-Marian 17, Ellinwood 0 (4 innings) The Monarchs scored five in the first, two in the second then 10 in the fourth to end the game early by run-rule.

Ian Nehls led off the top of the first with a double, back to back walks to Carson Liles and Grant Nehls loaded the bases. Logan Baalmann and Caden Dinkel were both hit by pitch to drive in the first two runs. Ty Schmeidler and Jacob Seib drew a bases loaded walks. Connor Breit rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

In the second, Baalmann doubled to center field and Dinkel singled down the left field line, each scoring a run.

Seib had the big hit in the 10-run fourth with a bases-loaded triple. Dinkel added an RBI double. Nash Dreiling had an RBI single. Grant Nehls drew a bases loaded walk, Baalmann and Dinkel were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Monarchs also scored a run on an error.

Carson Liles (1-0) earned the win, surrendering only one hits over four innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

Dinkel went 2-for-2 and drove in four runs. Baalmann collected two hits in two at bats. Grant Nehls drew three or the Monarchs eight walks.
