🏀 TMP-Marian earns sweep of Trego

HAYS – The TMP girls and boys completed a second straight doubleheader sweep Tuesday with a pair of wins over the Trego Golden Eagles at Al Billinger Fieldhouse in Hays.

GIRLS: TMP 47, Trego 41
The TMP girls used a 15-6 fourth quarter run on their way to a 47-41 victory over the Trego Golden Eagles Tuesday.

After falling behind 3-2 to open the game the TMP (9-5, 4-1 MCL) girls finished the first quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 12-5 lead into the second quarter.

TMP’s Jaci VonLintel and Brooke Koenigsman combined to score all 12 first quarter points for TMP.

The Monarchs built an 11 point lead early in the second quarter on the first of two Claire Schippers at 18-7.

A Juilianna Baalman three-pointer later in the quarter put TMP up 12 and they were ablet to maintain that lead into halftime for a 26-14 lead.

The Monarchs opened their largest lead of the game at 13, 30-17 on a pair of Gracyn Schippers free throws with five minutes left in the third quarter.

Down 13 Trego (8-6, 4-2 MCL) put together a 14-0 lead to end the third quarter and open the fourth quarter as they took their only lead in the second half at 31-30 less than a minute into the fourth quarter.

On the next possession TMP’s Brooke Koenigsman converted a layup giving TMP back the lead at 32-31 with 7:30 to play in the fourth quarter.

 Baalman added a second three pointer on the next TMP possession as the Monarchs answered with a 15-6 run to take a 45-37 lead.

TMP closed out the 47-41 victory for their fifth straight win.

Brooke Koenigsman and Jaci VonLintel led all scorers with 13 points for TMP.

BOYS: TMP 47, Trego 30
The TMP boys held Trego to just four field goals in the second and third quarter combined while outscoring the Golden Eagles by 17 during that stretch on their way to their 10th straight win Tuesday 47-30.

TMP opened the game on a 7-0 run as the two teams traded early runs with the Monarchs leading 7-0 to start the game and then Trego closed within one at then of the first quarter at 12-11 thanks to a 11-5 run.

It was the Monarchs turn to open the second quarter, outscoring Trego 10-3 for a 22-14 lead on a Kade Harris three pointer.

They extended their lead to 29-18 at halftime.

Trego got back with nine, at 31-22 on a pair of free throws but the Monarchs answered with a 12-0 run to end the third quarter and open the fourth quarter on their way to a 47-30 victory.

Luke Rome scored a game-high 10 points for TMP.
