🥎 Hays falls in regional opener to Great Bend

GODDARD, Kan. - Hays High opened postseason play with Western Athletic Conference opponent Great Bend on Wednesday at Goddard Eisenhower High School. The Indians had beaten the Panthers in their three regular season meetings buy couldn't overcome five errors and lost  10-5 ending the Indians' season.

Great Bend scored a run in the top of the first, capitalizing on the Indians' first two errors.

Hays answered by scoring three in the bottom of the inning. Lakyn Zimmerman gave the Indians a lead with a two run double and Morgen Berry knocked in a third run in the inning.

Hays would not score again until the seventh.

Great Bend used another Indian error and bases loaded walk to score four runs and take the lead for good in the second inning at 5-3.

The Panthers would add runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh inning to build a 10-3 lead. Hays scored two in the bottom of the seventh.

Hays finishes the year at 15-6. Great Bend lost 6-2 to host Goddard-Eisenhower in the regional final and finished their season 11-11.
