HAYS – Brand Wilson and Max Flowers both hit solo homers and the Hays Larks scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break open a tight game and defeat the Gameday Angels 13-5 Wednesday at Larks Park to stay undefeated on the season.
Gameday (3-5, 2-5 RMBL) jumped out to the early lead with three runs in the top of the first. The Larks (9-0, 8-0 RMBL) answered with two in the first and three in the second to take a 5-3 lead. Cooper Holtoft tripled to center, Taber Stokes singled down the right field line and Brayden Huebner had a sacrifice fly, each scoring a run.
After Gameday tied the game with two in the third, Brand Wilson hit a solo homer to give the Larks the lead for good at 6-5.
The Larks then put the game away with five in the seventh. Tanner Norman had the big hit with a two-run double. He later stole home for the final run of the inning. Hutch Russell drew a bases loaded walk and Wilson had a sacrifice fly.
Max Flowers added a solo homer in the eighth for the Larks final run.
Max Hendrix (2-0) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks and was awarded the win. Trent Baker, Jaxon Ramos and Justin Peinado combined for five scoreless innings of relief.
Max Flowers, Hutch Russell, Cooper Holtorf and Taber Stokes each had two of the Larks 13 hits with Russell driving in three runs. The Larks also drew eight walks and stole nine bases.
The Larks and Angels close out the three game series with a non-league game Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Larks Park.
