HAYS – The Gameday Angels scored a run in the top of the ninth inning Friday night as they beat the Hays Larks 3-2 at Larks Park in Hays.
The two teams proved to be pretty well matched through the first eight innings of the contest.
First, it was Gameday scoring a single run in the top of the second inning, on an RBI single, but Hays answered right back with a run in the bottom of the inning on a Mason Hamlin solo home run, tying the game at one.
The Larks (8-2-1, 5-2 RMBL) have now homered in seven straight games.
After three straight scoreless innings, the Angels (5-4, 1-1 RMBL) got a solo home run of their own in the top of the sixth.
But the lead was short-lived when Jackson Babcock drove in a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly, tying the game at two.
After two more scoreless innings, the Angels singled home a run in the top of the ninth inning to go up 3-2.
But unfortunately for the Larks, they were unable to match Gameday in the bottom of the inning and suffered the loss.
Trent Baker allowed one run in two innings and suffered the loss.
Kaleb Duncan, Paul Smith and Thomas Lyssy each collected two hits in the losing effort.
The two teams will play the third game of the series Saturday at Larks Park.
