HAYS - Hays High swimmer Jaylen Hughes dominated in the latest home meet Tuesday. The junior led the Hays girls team, starting with a first place victory in the 50 free and PR of 25.74, improved her best time by .30 seconds. Hughes also secured first place finish in the 100 butterfly. So far this season she is qualified for state in the 200 IM, 100 back, 100 fly, 50 free, and 100 free.
The girls' A relay team also secured at first place win in the 200 free relay, and secured their spot at state in the 400 free relay with a -2.16 second time drop. This year's A relay team consists of Jaylen Hughes (Jr.), Lucy Tippy (Sr.), Cailin Debey (Sr.), and Jayleigh Weilert (Jr.).
Hays' home meet top five individual finishers also include:
Senior Cailin Debey in second place in the 200 IM with a -13.96 time improvement, third place in the 100 free dropping -3.27.
Senior Lucy Tippy finished third in the 200 free with a -8.15 time cut, and second in the 500 free with a -12.12 improvement.
Junior Jayleigh Weilert finished fifth in the 200 IM with a whopping -34.38 time cut, and fourth place in the 100 free with a -8.59 cut.
Junior Janessa Miller finished fourth in the 100 back with a time of 1:25.80.
Sophomore Kesa Tsereteli finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time improvement of -.81.
The team hits the road Thursday to compete in Great Bend and Saturday in Maize.
