馃 Pair of walk off wins for Hays softball

HAYS - Hays High closed out the home portion of their regular season and finished Western Athletic Conference play on Tuesday versus Liberal at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.

Game 1: Hays 5, Liberal 4
Riley Dreher lifted a pitch to left field deep enough to allow Aubree Thomas to tag and score from third for a bottom of the seventh walk-off victory over Liberal 5-4.

Hays committed three errors in the first inning allowing Liberal to lead 2-0. Hays scored single runs in the each the second, third and fourth innings to tie the game at three before the Redskins hit a solo home run in the fifth for a 4-3 advantage.

Highlights

The Indians tied the game again in the sixth when Morgan Berry crossed the plate. Hays prevented the Redskins from scoring in the seventh following a passed ball that was thrown back to the plate in time for a tag.

Dreher's game winning sacrifice fly came after Liberal committed a pair of errors to open the seventh, putting runners at the corners with nobody out. 

Aubree Thomas (5-5) took the victory working seven innings allowing eight hits, four runs, two earned. 

Game 2: Hays 9, Liberal 8
Morgen Berry drove in four of the Indians nine runs in the second game, including the game winner in the seventh inning scoring Lakyn Zimmerman. 

Berry hit a three run double to push Hays out front in the bottom of the first inning. Berry then scored one batter later for a 4-0 Indian advantage. Liberal responded back with three runs over the next two innings pulling within one at 4-3.

Highlights

Liberal took their first lead by scoring three runs in the seventh at 8-7. The Indians took the lead back on the only three batters that came to the plate in the seventh. Riley Dreher led off with a single. She would score on a single by Lakyn Zimmerman who then moved to third on a Liberal error. Berry drove in Zimmerman for the game winner.

Dreher(6-2) took the win in the circle.

Hays has won six in a row and now sits at 12-6 and finish 8-4 in conference play. Liberal falls to 8-9 and 1-8. They have been involved in six straight one run games, winning just one of them.

Hays is off until next week when they finish their regular season at Andover Central to play Central and Salina South.
