WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped game three against No. 2 ranked Central Missouri Sunday afternoon (March 24), 16-2. The Tigers (18-12, 6-10 MIAA) could not limit the best scoring offense in the country as the Mules (26-4, 14-2 MIAA) came away with the victory.
Fort Hays State managed to manufacture its first run in the fourth. Brady Kreutzer led the inning off with a double, then Trey DeGarmo singled up the middle to score Kreutzer. The other run came in the sixth when Cesar Saavedra continued his hot streak with leadoff triple. He eventually scored on an Elliott Herrmann single up the middle.
Trevor Baugh, Shaun Gomez, DJ Cavazos, WIll Isaly, Andrew Hansen and Garrett Wellbrock all saw action on the mound. Hansen recorded the only two strikeouts among the staff for the day in his 2 innings of relief. Starter Trevor Baugh (2-2) didn't get out of the first inning, giving up three runs and took the loss.
Central Missouri took control immediately, scoring six in the first three innings of play. They added four in the fourth and six in the sixth to bring the run rule into play as the game ended after seven innings.
Mules starter Jack Kriesman went 5 innings, giving up just one run with eight strikeouts. Jack Scott relieved him for the final two innings.
Herrmann had two hits in the contest, with DeGarmo, Kreutzer and Saavedra contributing the only other hits for FHSU.
