COLBY - The Hays High Indians opened the 38th Colby Orange & Black Classic with Lamar, Colorado on Thursday evening.
The Indians used a 15-0 first half run on their way to a 56-34 win.
Hays needed the run after the Thunder scored the first six points of the contest. The Indians held Lamar without a point for the next 5:45 while building their lead to nine.
Hays led by nine twice in the first half. Lamar was able to cut into the lead each time and pulled within four by halftime 24-20.
Highlights
The Indians came out of the locker room with one of their best quarters of the year outscoring the Thunder 23-8. Hays used runs of 12-0 and 8-0 to push their advantage above 20.
Hays led 44-25 going into the fourth quarter and were never threatened on the way to a 56-34 victory.

Hays improves to 7-3, Lamar falls to 8-3. The Indians face Goodland Friday at 3:00. The Cowgirls defeated Chanute 49-17.
