Clarence Legleiter

Clarence F. Legleiter, 69, Hays, died Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.

He was born August 21, 1951 in Hays, the son of Francis and Mary Ann (Dinkel) Legleiter.  He was a graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy in the class of 1969 and earned an Associate’s Degree from Barton County Community College, becoming a medical lab technician.  On July 22, 1972 he was united in marriage to Carol M. Gabel at St. Joseph Church in Hays.  He worked in construction, was a farmer, and a chemistry supervisor at Quest Diagnostics.  His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325.  He loved farming, carpentry and remodeling, and vegetable gardening, especially growing tomatoes.

Survivors include his wife Carol, of the home in Hays, his mother, Mary Ann Legleiter of Liebenthal, three sons:  Frank Legleiter and wife Donna of Salina, Leon Legleiter and wife Carrie of Hays, and Matthew Legleiter and fiancé Karlee Brunner of Hays, two brothers: Robert Legleiter and wife Sue of Hays and Duane Legleiter and wife Monica of LaCrosse, five sisters: Janett Copeland and husband Frank of Greeley, CO, Shirley Haselhorst and husband Art of Antonino, Lilly Binder and husband Ernie of Munjor, Evelyn Younker and husband Darold of Munjor, and Luella Amrein and husband Craig of Lawrence, two grandchildren: Kelton and Addilyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Legleiter and a brother: Glenn Legleiter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, with Fr. Leo Blasi officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Liebenthal.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm, a vigil service will be a 6:00 pm, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Friday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Rooks County Health Center, TMP-Marian High School, or to Holy Family Elementary School.  Condolences and memories of Clarence may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
