⚾ HHS defeats TMP-Marian in Diamond Classic opener

HAYS - The Hays High baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open a one-run game and defeated the TMP-Marian Monarchs 11-1 in five innings in their Western Plains Diamond Classic opener at Hays High School.

The Indians (9-6) scored first on a Carson Spray base hit which scored Copper Sanders. The Monarchs (4-11) used back to back singles and a walk to tie the game in the second on a Caden Dinkel base hit. HHS scored on an error to take the lead back in the bottom of the inning.

The Indians opened the decisive fourth inning with a Toby May single. A walk and an error loaded the bases. HHS the first two runs following an error on a grounder. They scored the third run of the inning on a passed ball. Bradyn Dreher drove in a run with a triple to right and Spray knocked in a run with a single. The final run also scored on an error.

Carter Graham allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks and picked up the win for the Indians.

Drew Werth gave up 11 runs (four earned) on five hits with five walks and a strikeout and took the loss for the Monarchs.

Carson Spray had two hits and drove in three runs to lead Hays High at the plate. Carson Liles had two of the Monarchs five hits.

The Diamond Classic continues with five games Friday and four on Saturday.
