Peggy Arlene Beckham Strahm was born on March 20th, 1937, to Herman Dock Beckham and Hattie Lera Sloan Beckham on their family farm in Manor,Texas and died on Friday, February 24th, 2023, at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital.
Being the youngest of four children she loved the responsibilities she shared with her siblings when it came to tending the cotton fields, milking the cows, and caring for their huge garden. Peggy graduated from Pflugerville High School May of 1955 and went on to attend Nixon Clay Business School. She worked for the controllers office for one year. Peggy decided that joining the Army was a good fit for her and served 18 months at Fort McClellan, Alabama, and Fort Hood, Texas, where she met and married her husband Marvin Strahm. After they were both discharged from the Army, they went to Marvin’s home in Sabetha, Kansas, and started farming. Their three children Tamera Kay, Kevin Ray, and Curtis James were all born in Sabetha, Kansas.
Peggy worked for the Sabetha Hospital up until they moved in 1971 to Osborne, Kansas, where her husband Marvin became the Farm Bureau Agent for Osborne County. While living in Osborne, she was employed by the Osborne County Memorial Hospital and the Coast to Coast Store. In the Fall of 1980, they made the move back to Sabetha, Kansas, and she remained there till May of 2007. Wanting to be closer to her daughter and Family after her husband Marvin passed away in 2005 she made the move back to Osborne, Kansas. Peggy enjoyed being a hospice volunteer in Sabetha and Osborne as she was a blessing to many she cared for.
Peggy had three special ladies she cared for in their homes from Osborne and Downs, Kansas which brought her great joy. Many trips were made to Texas and California to be with her sisters and brother and she truly cherished those visits. Peggy had many friends who she enjoyed playing cards with, eating out, attending different events in the area and working at the local thrift shop “Market Place." Peggy’s faith and belief in Jesus Christ was very important to her. Marvin and her were members of the Apostolic Church of Sabetha, Kansas where they were both baptized and gave their testimony of faith.
Peggy enjoyed attending the Grace Brethren Church in Portis, Kansas where she met many new friends and partners of faith. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were definitely a great joy for her and comfort. Peggy had a gift of kindness and compassion in which she showed in her family and friends. Peggy often stated she was lucky to have a family she treasured and loved, generous friends, and a savior.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her son Kevin, parents Herman and Hattie, brother Clyde, sisters Bertie Ruth and Billie, and great granddaughter Madison Spears.
Survivors include daughter Tammy and husband Doug Spears of Osborne, and her son Curtis and wife Claudia of Kansas City, Missouri. Grandchildren Alisha and husband Jeff Schwinn of Topeka, Kansas, Jessica and husband David Hindman of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Devin and wife Mercedes Spears, of Osborne, Joshua Strahm of Los Angeles, California and Nicole Strahm of Kansas City, Missouri. Great grandchildren Brody, Brixton, Brynlee, Ella, Emry, Maclin, Griffin, Abigail, Emma, Harper, and Maverick.
