🏀 Monarchs split MCL doubleheader with Hoxie

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs split a home doubleheader Tuesday night with the Hoxie Indians as the TMP Lady Monarchs came up short against the Indians, while the Monarchs boys had no problems in a lopsided victory.

GIRLS: Hoxie 69, TMP 48
The Hoxie Lady Indians (10-0, 4-0 MCL) used a 22-7 second-half run as they stayed unbeaten on the season in a 69-48 victory.

The Indians jumped out to a double-digit lead through the first quarter, at 20-9 and led by as many as 13 early in the second quarter before the Monarchs (5-4, 2-1 MCL) answered with a run of their own closing the gap to just four at halftime.

Brynn Schoepf scored nine straight points, sparking a 13-4 run, making it 28-24 at halftime.

TMP’s Brynn Rebel opened the second half with back-to-back layups tying the game at 28 with just over six minutes and 45 seconds left in the third.

Unfortunately for the Monarchs, the tie was short-lived as Hoxie answered with a 22-7 run to close the third quarter and open the fourth.

The Indians outscored TMP by 10 points in the final frame in a 69-48 victory.

Brynn Schoepf recorded her first career double-figure scoring contest with a team-high 11 points.

Hoxie’s Allie Gourley led all scorers with 22 points.

BOYS: TMP 72, Hoxie 20
The TMP-Marian Monarchs boys outscored Hoxie 46-8 in the first half en route to a 72-20 victory.

Ty Schmeidler scored the game’s first eight points and scored all of his 14 points in the first quarter as the Monarchs built a 25-4 first-quarter lead.

The Monarchs (5-4, 3-0 MCL) outscored Hoxie (3-7, 0-4) 21-4 in the second quarter. Grant Nehls and Carson Liles scored six points each in the second frame as the Monarchs built a 46-8 halftime lead.

With a running clock in the second half the Monarchs secured their second straight win, 72-20.

Ty Schmeidler finished with a game-high 14 points and Grant Nehls added 12 points.

The Monarchs will travel to Ellis on Thursday to take on the Railroaders.
