⚽ Three early goals enough, No. 6 Tigers hang on for win in Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Fort Hays State Men's Soccer remained unbeaten on the season, now 11-0-2 overall and 7-0-0 in the GAC with a a 3-2 victory over Northeastern State (6-5-2, 3-4-0 GAC) on Saturday. The No. 6 ranked Tigers extended their 13-match unbeaten streak to open the season with all of their goals within the first 12 minutes.

Fort Hays State established an early lead with two goals from Oliver Wright within the first seven minutes, both assisted on throw-ins by Joseph Street. The momentum continued as Bastian Carlman extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 12th minute, scoring off a corner kick from Juan Linares. Fort Hays State held a 7-5 lead in shots for the first half and Payton Roehrich notched his only two saves of the match to keep the RiverHawks out of the net before halftime.

In the second half, Northeastern State made the final 30 minutes of the match close with goals from Toby Nave in the 55th minute and Guilherme Nakamura in the 60th minute. Fort Hays State managed to keep pressure on as NSU keeper Jaron Noble had to make three second half saves, contributing to his four for the match in relief of Cameron McCulloch. FHSU held a slight shot advantage again, leading 6-5, and putting their overall advantage for the match to 13-10.

The two goals by NSU tied the most surrendered by the Tigers this year, happening only one other time in the 2-2 tie at MSU Denver, the second match of the season back on September 7.

Wright, Linares, Carlman, and Mamadou Oumar Ndiaye all led the Tigers with two shots each.

Looking ahead, Fort Hays State has a big week at home hosting Southern Nazarene on Thursday (Oct. 23) and Rogers State on Saturday (Oct. 25).
