HAYS, Kan. — Fort Hays State (9-0-2, 5-0-0 GAC) secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist (1-7-2, 0-5-0 GAC) on Saturday afternoon at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers took the lead early with a first half goal, then added two more late to remain unbeaten on the season through 11 matches and continue their best start to a season without a loss in program history.

Fort Hays State controlled the first half against Ouachita Baptist, capitalizing on a flurry of offensive pressure to take a 1-0 lead. Oliver Wright delivered his third header goal of the week off a throw in from Joseph Street in the 16th minute. FHSU finished the half with a 19-1 shot advantage. OBU played a man down for the final 70 minutes of the match after one of their players received a red for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity by taking down a FHSU player about to have a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

The Tigers had several chances to extend the lead early in the second half, but took until the 79th minute to go up 2-0. FHSU broke through with a goal from Juan Linares on a rifle shot inside the box, assisted by Bastian Carlman. Then Carlman pushed the lead to 3-0 a few minutes later off a free kick from Tadhg Walsh. Fort Hays State went on to outshoot Ouachita Baptist 25-2 in the match. Wright attempted eight shots in the match to lead FHSU.

Payton Roehrich secured another individual shutout in goal by making one save. He now has six individual shutouts and has been part of two combined shutouts as well, helping FHSU record its eighth shutout of the season overall.

Next up for the Tigers will be a home match against Newman University on Thursday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m. The team has selected it to be their Senior Night, even though more home games remain on the schedule beyond the contest.
