
Twila May (Dinkel) Dyer, 85, died Friday, February 17, 2023, at Fowler Residential Care, Fowler.
She was born June 15, 1937, on the family farm in Ness County, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew and Euphrosine (Bach) Dinkel. She was a graduate of Ness City High School and went on to earn her Associates Degree in Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse working at Trinity Hospital, Dodge City Regional Hospital, Family Planning Clinic, Hodgeman County Health Center and the WIC Program at the Ford County Health Department. She was a Dodge City resident since 1959 moving from Great Bend.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Altar Society, Girl Scout Leader and Retired Nurses Association of Dodge City.
On November 17, 1956, she married James Herbert Dyer at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1969.
Survivors include: her six children, Valarie Dyer, Jetmore, Stephanie VanDegrift and husband Todd, Dodge City, Dr. James Dyer Jr. and husband Alberto, Oak Ridge, New Jersey, Kevin Dyer and wife Susan, Greeley, Colorado, Tony Helfrich, Pratt, Kansas and Ashley Helfrich, Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Cletus Dinkel, Las Vegas, Nevada; six sisters, Marge Dinkel, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Coleman and husband Jerry, Pink, Oklahoma, Vivian Dinkel, Las Cruses, New Mexico, Betty Bryson, Lawrence, Kansas, Pat Gleeson, Azuza, California and Donna Hilmes, Othello, Washington; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Dyer, Nelson Perkins and wife Amanda, Tanis VanDegrift and wife Brooke, Joseph Jauregui, Tessa VanDegrift, Todd VanDegrift, Jr., Jonathan Fonseca, Robert Dyer, Halle Helfrich, Sian Helfrich and Kian Helfrich; 10 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, James Dyer, Jr. and a brother, Larry Dinkel.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Monday, February 27, 2023, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with Fr. John Stang presiding. The Mass may be viewed on the church’s Facebook page. Inurnment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Dodge. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
