Mary Lou Pfannenstiel, age 72, of Hays, Kansas passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born September 10, 1949, in Hays to Alois and Mary Helen (Jacob) Schumacher.

Mary Lou had worked as a cook for over 30 years primarily at Dan’s Café and Everybody’s Restaurant in Hays. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Christian Mothers both in Munjor, Kansas. She enjoyed doing Diamond Art, Puzzles and playing Skip-Bo with her grandchildren. Mary Lou was also involved with SER Corp as a Foster Grandmother, ARC and Relay for Life.

Mary Lou is survived by a son, Michael Pfannenstiel and wife, Nancy of Munjor; two daughters, Michelle Hollis of Hays and Margaret Bedard and husband Scott of Wichita; two brothers, Marion Schumacher and wife Val of Munjor and Ronald Schumacher and wife Pat of Littleton, Colorado; four grandchildren, Brooke Teraberry and husband Timothy of Wichita, Wayde Hollis of Hays, Pypere Hollis of Hays and Mila Pfannenstiel of Munjor as well as her fur baby, Susie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, DeWayne and Geral Schumacher; a sister, Charlotte Veatch; a nephew, Philip Veatch II; a sister-in-law, Natalie Schumacher; a brother-in-law, Philip Veatch; a son-in-law, Christopher Hollis and a fur baby, Shadow.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor with Fr. Damion Richards officiating. Private burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday 5PM – 8PM and Friday 9AM- 9:30 AM all at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A Munjor Christian Mother’s rosary service will be Thursday at 6:30 PM followed by a parish vigil service at 7 PM all at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of the High Plains.
