MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy signs five-year contract extension

  KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association’s CEO Council has agreed to award Commissioner Mike Racy a new five-year contract to continue leading one of the nation’s oldest and most successful NCAA conferences through 2031.“Commissioner Racy is a highly respected, collaborative leader whose stewardship continues to elevate the MIAA’s standing among all NCAA Division II conferences in the country,” said JuliAnn Mazachek, president of Washburn University and chair of the MIAA CEO Council. “His vision for the conference and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for our student-athletes have been instrumental to our success. We are delighted that Mike will continue leading the MIAA for another five years.”Commissioner Mike Racy has just completed his 10th year at the helm of the MIAA office. Under Racy’s leadership, MIAA member institutions have combined for 30 NCAA Division II national team championships across 11 different sports. The Association continues to dominate Division II athletics, as shown in the latest NCAA Division II Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings, which rank six MIAA institutions among the top 40 Division II schools nationally. The MIAA was also the only Division II conference to have five of its member institutions in the standings’ top 25.The Racy era has seen the creation and growth of many initiatives, such as the launch of The MIAA Network, now regarded as the best college sports media platform in Division II athletics. Commissioner Racy led the move of the conference headquarters to Kansas City’s Hy-Vee Arena, a high-traffic sports arena and the nation’s first multi-level, multi-functional sports complex. Racy is also responsible for expanding conference membership into Arkansas and doubling the sponsor program to include regional, national, and international partners like McCownGordon, Impact Signs, Summit Pointe Financial, AMPERE Sports Design, The Missouri State Highway Patrol, MUSCO Lighting, BSN, and Tarkett Sports.Under Racy’s leadership, the MIAA has championed important legislation and policy updates in Division II, including the new Division II Redshirt Rule, the Division II Football Week 0 start date, changes to Division II football spring practice, the Division II basketball season start date, and the new Division II Football Transfer Portal Window.“I am honored to sign this new contract and continue to lead this great Association,” said Commissioner Racy. “I have the best staff working in any conference office in the NCAA, and I am happy that we have the confidence of our MIAA Chancellors, Presidents, and Athletic Directors that our group is effectively serving our members, and that we are pushing MIAA schools toward our shared goals of competitive excellence, leadership, innovation, and service in NCAA Division II.”Commissioner Racy’s new five-year contract will start on July 1, 2026.
