
Janice Irene (Persell) Colgan was born January 3, 1941 in rural Phillips
County, KS, the youngest of 3 daughters born to Dale and Mona (Molzahn)
Persell. She passed away on May 2, 2021 at the age of 80, at the Good
Samaritan Center, in Atwood, KS.
Janice grew up in Norton, KS, where she attended grade school. She
graduated High School from Holdrege High School, in Holdrege, NE, in
1959. Janice attended business school in Denver, CO, where she earned
her Business degree. On June 3, 1961, she married James L. Colgan, in
Orleans, NE. James was in the Air Force which took them to Perrin
Air Force base in Sherman, TX. To this union, two sons were born, Timothy
James Colgan and James (Jim) Leonard Colgan Jr. The family of 4
relocated to Atwood in 1968.
Janice spent her entire adult life working as an office manager at
various business in Atwood. She retired from her job at the Natural
Resource Conservation Service. Other businesses included Farm Bureau,
Warta Chiropractic and Montgomery Wards.
Janice loved her family, which included her Siamese cats. She enjoyed
attending her grandchildren's music concerts, reading, bowling, and
attending Bible study. She was a member of the United Methodist Women
and the Red Hatters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; brother-in-Law
Paul Roth; sister Wanda Fisher, and grandson Bryce Colgan.
Janice is survived by her son, Tim and Lori Colgan, of Atwood and their
children, Lyndsi, of Atwood, Sarah Reunitz, of Curaçao, Cameron, of
Lawrence and Harrison, of Manhattan; her son Jim and Pam Colgan, of
Colby, and their son Dalton (MaKayla), of Colby; sister Carol Roth, of
Kearny, NE; brother-in-Law Neil Fisher, of Spokane, WA and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at
the Atwood United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 10:00
a.m. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials may
be made to the Atwood Public Library and sent in care of Baalmann
