Jimmy “Jim” Lee Allen passed away at his home in Dodge City on February 7, 2022. He was born December 26, 1928 the son of Sam Allen and Lorean Holcomb.
Jimmy grew up in Manhattan and Dodge City. He attended Dodge City High School, graduating in 1946. He married Virginia Wynona Shute, on February 12, 1948 and they resided in Dodge City, where Jim worked with his dad in the shoe and boot repair and sales business. He later became a co-owner of Sams Shoe Store until December 31, 2013 when he retired.
Jimmy was an avid KU, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was also an avid bowler and loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports. Jimmy had a contagious smile and was a gentle, loving and kind hearted man to everyone he met.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Wynona; four sons, Ted Allen, DC, McAllen, Texas, Toby and wife Jan Allen, Overland Park, Sam Allen, DC and wife Luisa “Gabby” Allen, Brownsville, Texas, and Monty and wife Lori Allen Dodge City; and daughter Jody Allen, Iola; 12 grandchildren, Lee Michael Allen, Pensacola, Florida, Amy Lynn Allen, Leander, Texas, Brandon and wife Katy Allen, Arvada, Colorado, Brandt Allen and partner Brock Brockman, Chicago, Illinois, Brock and wife Meghan Allen, Prairie Village, Haley Allen, Edinburg, Texas, Sammy Allen, Jr. and Lynnsie Allen, Brownsville, Texas, Rylan Allen, Shawnee, Airika Seamster, Chanute, Tyler and wife Rhiannon Blanchard, Gardner, and Keian Zimmerman, Iola; five step grandchildren, Jana and husband Jared Wickham, Hays, Jance and wife Eryn Freeman, Jacksonville, Florida, Miguel “Mike” and wife Danielle Grier, Weslaco, Texas, Raul Antonio “Tony” Castro, San Diego, California, Myrna “Mimis” Castro, Laredo, Texas; 10 great grandchildren, Jackson and Sawyer Allen, Pensacola Florida, Harper, Hannah and Hazel Allen, Arvada, Colorado, Emersyn and Cayden Allen, Prairie Village, Kaiden, Kysen and Koen Seamster, Chanute, and Jett and Nayve Rae Blanchard, Gardner; and four step great grandchildren, Jayten and Jaymesen Wickham, Hays, Jaymes Freeman, Bremerton, Washington, and Oliver Grier, Weslaco, Texas.
Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
