DODGE CITY – The Hays High girls wrestling team qualified six wrestlers and finished in third place Saturday at the 6-5A regional at the Dodge City Civic Center. The Indians had two regional, one regional runner-up finisher, two third-place finishers and one fourth place finisher.
Dodge City win the team title with 233 points, Garden City second with 205 points and the Indians third with 129 points.
Sarah Zimmerman and Tionna Napue both won regional titles. Zimmerman (27-1) won by fall over Anna Cullens of Hutchinson at 110. Napue (28-3) defeated Goddard-Eisenhower’s Lanie Burkhart on a 7-4 decision at 115.
Lexi Burton (24-6) finished runner-up at 135, losing by fall to Dodge City’s Hailey Ramos in the finals.
Ava Ruiz and Lexi Barnett both placed third. Ruiz (18-12) defeated Paige Chappel of Garden City by fall in the 140 third-place match. Barnett (23-13) won by fall over Liberal’s Alexa Valenzuela at 145.
Reese Vehige finished fourth at 125.
The 6-5A State Tournament is on February 22nd and 23rd at Hartman Arena in Park City.
