⚾ Larks drop homestand finale to Cannons

HAYS – The Kansas Cannons scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie then added three in the sixth to take the lead and beat the Hays Larks 7-6 in a non-league game at Larks Park. The loss ends the Larks eight-game winning-streak and is also their first home loss this summer.

The Larks (12-3) scored three in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead but the Cannons answered with two in the fifth to tie. After the Larks re-took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Cannons score three in the sixth to take the lead for good. The Larks scored a run in the bottom of the sixth but were shutout over the final three innings.

Caden Hare (0-1) was one of six Larks pitchers in the game and allowed one earned run on three hits over 1 1/3 innings and suffered the loss.

Tyler LaRue had three hits including a home run and drove in three. His first inning double drove in Tanner Rice to get the Larks their first run. LaRue scored the tying run in the second when Ben Fierenzi was hit by a pitch. He gave the Larks the lead back in the fifth with a solo homer.

The Larks are on the road for nine of their next 11 games beginning Wednesday night with the first of two in Liberal.
