Nicholas Patrick Schroeder, 89, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away on March 18, 2022, peacefully at his home. Nick ,“Pat,” was born in Rawlins County, KS, on June 26, 1932. He graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1950. Then entered the United States Coast Guard serving until 1953. Upon an honorable discharge he attended Kansas State University and received a Bachelor of Science.
He married Judy Cooper on June 6, 1959; they were married 62 years. He worked as a Vocational Ag teacher in Red Cloud NE, Holbrook NE, and Gordon NE where he started the wrestling program; and was a Farmers Home Association officer in Grand Island NE, Lexington NE, and McCook NE. He taught Vo-Ag at Palco for six months to gain KS residency. In 1966 he decided to fulfill his lifetime dream to become a veterinarian and was accepted into KSU Veterinary School receiving his degree in 1970. He practiced Veterinary Medicine in Liberal KS for two years. In 1972 he returned to KSU to teach large and small animal medical surgery and received a master’s degree in surgical medicine in 1974. After practicing in Marysville, KS, he left to open his own practice in Rawlins WY where he started the Rawlins Veterinary Clinic. In 1995 he retired and moved to WaKeeney KS where he raised Red Angus cattle.
Nick is survived by his wife Judy, children Tom Schroeder (Darla) of Texhoma, OK, Joel Schroeder of Thoreau NM, Sarah Albright (Jeff) of Tavares FL, Rebecca Clemence (Stephen “Stage”) of Laramie WY, and grandchildren Payton Schroeder, Kyanne Schroeder, Sheridan Schroeder, Jackson Schroeder, Tyler Albright, Paul Gonzales, Hope Gonzales, Deja Gonzales; Brothers Fulgence (Rita), Gerald Schroeder (Mary Lou), Dan (Janet), and Sister Joan Harvey.
He was proceeded in death by parents Margaret (Arendt) and Charles Schroeder, grandson Elias Gonzales, Brothers John, Anthony Leon, Charles Martel, Sisters Delores Orten, Barbara Mindrup, Rose Winkler.
Visitation will be Tuesday March 22nd from 5pm-7pm. Vigil beginning at 6pm followed by the Rosary at Schmitt Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday, March 23rd, at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney.
