MARSHALL, Mo. – Isabella Renfro of Fort Hays State was the champion of the 180 class at the annual Missouri Valley Open, held Friday and Saturday (Nov. 21-22). Fort Hays State had 14 members of its team compete at the tournament and came away with a pair of placers as Morgan Maschmann placed eighth at 124 in addition to Renfro's victorious run.
The Missouri Valley Open is one of the largest women's wrestling tournaments in the nation annually with several of the nation's top teams at all NCAA levels, NAIA, and NJCAA competing. A total of 553 wrestlers over 30 teams competed in this year's tournament.
Renfro continued her dominant start to the 2025-26 season by going 6-0 in the tournament. She has been on a mission, now 11-0 for the season with eight falls and three 10-0 tech falls. She really put the hammer down in the semifinals and finals, taking out a pair of No. 3 nationally ranked wrestlers. In the semis, she pinned Mahalia Adams of Iowa Central (NJCAA No. 3 ranked by Open Mat) in 48 seconds. Then in the final, she knocked of NCAA No. 3 ranked Destiny Rodriguez of McKendree with a pin in 55 seconds. Renfro is ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA rankings.
Maschmann put together a solid 5-3 weekend to place eighth. She won her first two matches by tech fall, then after dropping a match by fall, scored a tech fall and a pair of decisions in consolation action to ensure she would be in the placement matches. She dropped her last two matches by decisions.
Five Tigers recorded winning records for the tournament. Joining Renfro (6-0) and Maschmann (5-3) were Jaidyn Alvarado (4-2), Ashlynn Goodwin (3-2) and Dylen Ritchey (4-2).
