A Hays teenager was apprehended after repeatedly being removed from a bar and leading police on a chase.

The Hays Police Department received a report of an intoxicated underage male at midnight on April 7 at Chuck's, 507 W. Seventh St.

Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said 19-year-old Colt Matthew Minihan tried to enter the bar but was refused by the bouncer after three prior attempts.

"The officers advised the young man that it was his last chance to go home or face being arrested, and the kid left the area," Scheibler said.

Officers left the scene, but the suspect returned for a fourth time at 1:46 a.m. and was once again denied entry into Chuck's.

"They were throwing him out of the bar and that's when they notified the officers again," Scheibler said. "That's when Minihan ran and officers chased him down."

Two officers pursued Minihan on foot and tackled him, with a third officer arriving to assist.

Scheibler said that during the apprehension, the suspect struck an officer in the right cheek with his elbow before being handcuffed.

Minihan was arrested on pending charges of minor consumption, criminal trespass, interference with law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Minihan was not injured during the foot pursuit and arrest. He was subsequently booked into Ellis County Jail.

The officer struck did not receive any injuries.
