Grace (Stewart) Satran

Grace Nellie Stewart Satran, 96, of WaKeeney, Kansas passed away peacefully on November 1, 2021 at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital.  Grace Stewart Satran was born May 15, 1925, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Concordia, Kansas, to Grant I. and Nellie Sander Stewart.  They took her home to Stockton where she grew up and graduated from Stockton High School.  She graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas, and later received a Master’s degree from Fort Hays University.

Grace came to WaKeeney in 1950 to teach and married Joseph Satran at the Stockton Methodist Church on April 8, 1952.  They lived on the Satran farm for thirty years and then moved to WaKeeney in 1982.

Grace and Joseph had three children, Dale Satran and wife, Phyllis of Cherryvale, Kansas, Glenetta Schierding and husband, Donald of Overland Park, Kansas and Jim Satran and wife, Debra of Ogallah, Kansas.  They have 4 grandchildren, Nicole Michael and husband, Ben of Hill City, Kansas; Curtis Satran and wife Megan of WaKeeney, Kansas, Casey Satran of Central Point, Oregon, and Aaron Satran and fiancé Emma Anderson of WaKeeney, Kansas.  Grace had 4 great grandchildren, Cora and Cordell Michael and Laurel and Collin Satran.

Grace was a member of First United Methodist Church in WaKeeney and was active in U.M.W. She served on many local and district committees.  Grace loved to sing in the choir and play the organ and piano at church.  She spent many hours practicing at church. 

Grace was also a long time member of Harmony Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Locust Club and a member of Phi Kappa Phi.

Grace loved to spend time with her family.  She would often cook Sunday Dinner for everyone where they would enjoy her famous cinnamon rolls. 

Grace loved to travel and went on many bus tours with her daughter and friends.  Her last voyage was to Alaska with her whole family to celebrate her 90th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three half-brothers, three half-sisters, her husband Joseph Satran, son-in-law, Donald Schierding, and son, Dale Satran.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 5, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in WaKeeney, with Pastor Bob Clemence officiating.
