Deborah Mangen

Deborah Jolene Snodgrass Mangen, 70, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 28, 2021 on the family ranch.

Born November 12, 1950 in Great Bend, Kansas, she was the daughter of Paul Estel and Ramona Jean (Lewis) Snodgrass.  She was raised and received her education in Rozel, Kansas graduating from Rozel High School in 1967.  Following high school, she attended Brown Mackey Business College in Salina, graduating with a degree in Business Administration.  She then took a job working at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and later worked for National Railway Relations Board. 

Debbie was united in marriage to Jerome “Jerry” Mangen on January 1, 1973 in Larned, Kansas.  The couple made their first home in Georgetown before moving to Oklahoma City.  The family moved to Kansas City in 1980 and in 1985, relocated to Arkansas City, Kansas.  While in Arkansas City, Debbie worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau.  She then became the office manager for Mangen Chiropractic, where she remained until February of 2021.  In 1996, the family moved to their ranch near Cedar Vale, Kansas.  Debbie was a proud cattle rancher and enjoyed taking care of any animal, especially those in need.  She was a very active member in her community, serving as a mentor to many.

Her family includes her husband, Dr. Jerry Mangen of Cedar Vale; her son Paul Ryan Mangen and wife, Dr. Shanun Kunnavatana of Durham, NC; her daughter Carrie Anne Ortbals and husband, Chris of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; her brother Jerry Robert Snodgrass of Rozel; her sister Diane Lynn Pfeifer of Hays; she was Baba to Ryan Victor Ortbals, Ethan David Ortbals, Eleanor Jolene Mangen, Bodhi Krieger Mangen; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by three brothers, James Leon Snodgrass, John Douglas Snodgrass, Joe Stanley Snodgrass, and a sister Donna Kay Pivonka.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Garfield Cemetery in Garfield, Kansas.
