Get ready to hit the road with Hays City Auto, a new shop that promises customers a transparent and honest experience.

Since its opening on Jan. 15, the automotive shop has kept owner Daniel Dysinger busy with tending to the wheels of the Hays community.

Despite 20 years of automotive experience at various shops, Dysinger has attempted to leave the industry on more than one occasion, only to find himself returning.

"I felt like it was a calling to come back to automotive, start my own business and help people out," he said.

Hays City Auto, 808 Milner St., services include oil changes, engine replacements, and transmission and coolant exchange.

To leave the industry, Dysinger pursued his real estate license in Colorado. There, he crossed paths with his now wife, a native of Hays, with whom he now shares a child.

Dysinger said Hays doesn't have enough technicians and is motivated to bring fast service to the community.

"People need to have their vehicles for their livelihoods like going to the doctor, going to work, or whatever they choose to do," he said.

Dysinger uses a website that he said differentiates him from other businesses in the area called Digital Vehicle Inspection.

This allows Dysinger to provide customers with visuals of the car he's working on, such as air filters, brakes, and underneath the vehicle.

"If there's any oil leaks, I'll take a picture of the bottom of the engine because no one knows what underneath looks like unless they get on their hands and knees," he said.

The website aims to offer customers transparency regarding the repairs being conducted on their vehicles and the associated costs.

"I don't allow a vehicle to leave the shop without customers knowing what's wrong," Dysinger said. "I don't repair anything until we go over the full estimate."

Customers will receive a link via text message to stay updated on their vehicle's checklist and repairs.

Dysinger said the Digital Vehicle Inspection would benefit women seeking services most, based on his experience attending to a wide range of customers.

"In the past, females always get told they need something when they actually don't need it," he said.

Dysinger said younger generations are at higher risk of being taken advantage of due to their limited experience with vehicles.

As the only employee at Hays City Auto, Dysinger envisions future expansion for the shop, with a potential new location near I-70.

Hiring additional staff on his road to growth is something Dysinger said he will approach with mindfulness.

"I don't want to hire someone, and I don't know what they can produce," he said. "I want good quality from them and to treat customer and their vehicles with respect."

Hays City Auto offers monthly deals to customers. Ten percent off of any part is underway during February.

The shop is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and Saturdays by appointment.
