DODGE CITY - Hays High softball went 1-3 at the at the Dodge City Softball Classic. On Friday, the Indians lost 4-0 to Goddard Eisenhower and 22-5 to Derby, Saturday they beat Wichita Northwest 3-0 then lose 9-2 to Maize South.
The Indians are now 7-7 overall. They return to Western Athletic Conference play at home Tuesday against Great Bend.
Goddard Eisenhower 4, Hays 0
Eisenhower scored a run in the first and three in the third. The Indians had six hits in the game, five of them singles. Jaylee Summers took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and not walks over seven innings.
Derby 22, Hays 5 (4 innings)
The Panthers scored eight in the second and eight in the third to blow the game open. The Indians scored three in the bottom of the first on a Brynlee Rupp 3-run homer to take a 3-2 lead. Avery Raymer pitched three innings and took the loss.
Hays 3, Wichita Northwest 0
The Indians scored a run in the second on Lanie Becker single, then added two in the top of the seventh on a Brooklynn Dinkel double to center and Becker groundout. Avery Raymer scattered two hits with four strikeouts and three walks for the win.
Maize South 9, Hays 2
The Mavericks took control early with a six-run first. The Indians scored single runs in the fifth and sixth on a Shae Augustine single and Avery Raymer sacrifice bunt. Jaylee Summers allowed all nine runs (two earned) on seven hits. Hays committed four errors in the game.
