Hays received its first precipitation of the month overnight Monday.
According to the official report from K-State Agricultural Research Center, 0.62 inches of rain fell during a thunderstorm with lightning.
After an overnight low of 28 degrees, the rain was frozen Tuesday morning on elevated surfaces,
The rain was welcome following a dry October with just 0.16 inches of precipitation. Normal precipitation in Hays during October is 1.45 inches.
The U.S. Drought Monitor shows Ellis County with abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions as of Nov. 5.
